Hotel de Werdenberg ~ Alpine Skiing Holidays
Guest Quote "I have skied many times in Europe (not got across the pond yet...), mainly France, Italy and the Tirol in Austria and have to say I think this place is hidden gem. The ski area is substantial (860km of piste) mainly reds and blues on wide slopes through the trees."
The Sportwelt Amade – Home of Champions
Hotel de Werdenberg in Eben im Pongau lies at the gateway to the extensive
ski region known as the Sportwelt Amade. The Sportwelt Amade is situated
just 45 minutes south of Salzburg and boasts an extensive amount of skiing
in a snow sure area.
The Sportwelt Amade is famous throughout Europe for it’s skiing, although
in Britain it is somehow lesser known compared to the Tirol Region. The Sportwelt
Amade has 285 ski lifts and 865 km of piste's, all within a 5-15 minute journey
in our courtesy bus from the centrally located hotel. In addition the ski
pass extends to neighbouring regions covering a total of 1500km of piste including
the Dachstein Glacier.
The Sportwelt Amade consists of 10 towns: Altenmarkt, Eben, Filzmoos, Flachau, Flachauwinkl, Kleinarl, Radstadt, St. Johann/Alpendorf, Wargrain & Zaunchensee. All the towns have their own unique characters and range of things to do, from sleigh rides in Filzmoos to shopping in St Johann. Nearly all the towns are interconnected, enabling you to ski continuously from Radstat right across to Alpendorf.
The skiing can only be described as fantastic with such a huge variety of on and off piste skiing. For the boarders there is a superb board park and for all is the exhilarating speed shute. A mention must be given to the ski lift system, which is one of the best in Europe. Using the latest electronic ski passes, escalators, conveyor belts and with many gondolas and covered 8 man chair lifts, queuing is virtually un-known.
The Hotel de Werdenberg is in the smaller picturesque town of Eben. Eben only has a limited number of slopes but has a very popular ski school due to the quiet slopes and shallow runs at the bottom. Eben has 4 lifts, wide and well-groomed slopes, mountain restaurants, bars and pubs, a ski and snowboard school, 4 km toboggan run, curling, skating, 15km countryside walking and everything else you need for a perfect winter break in this typically picturesque Austrian town.
For those who do not ski, the hotel is just on the outskirts of Eben, offering a level easy walk into the village for the cafes, shops, restaurants and bars. The other towns offer a huge variety of activities, all of which can be reached with the free local ski bus or a short taxi ride.
The region has a long history of producing champions, with the following Austrian downhill racers being from this area.
Herman Maier (The Herminator).
Currently the 2nd most successful skier of all time, his career was close
to ending after a serious motorbike accident in 2001 but in 2005-6 season
he returned to full fitness winning the SuperG. He is the areas most famous
resident growing up and living in Flachau
Andrea Fischbacher. Andrea is our local champion, growing up and living in our very own town of Eben, which she proudly displays across her helmet. The town comes to a standstill every time she races.
